Hence, if you wish to install maps from GPSFileDepot, don't upgrade to version 4.7.0 of BaseCamp - keep the one you have. Unfortunately, it just so happens that the current Window's version of BaseCamp software, version 4.7.0, has a bug in its MapInstaller, so it won't install maps to your Garmin. though I think doing something as simple as making a route and sending it to a GPS in Basecamp couldnt be more simple. The more powerful the tools, the steeper the learning curve, imagine that. This is where you find the excellent free topo maps I mentioned above. Basecamp is software you might actually have to take a small amount of time to learn, maybe even watch one of the many available tutorials. Some of the best free maps are tagged "Editor's Choice," see this link. BaseCamp includes a map installer that allows you to transfer the maps to your Garmin GPS unit. You can download and install the maps to your PC, and then open them in Garmin's BaseCamp software. GPSFileDepot,, is a repository of GPS maps, including excellent free topo maps of every US state. I know it's free, but I'd happily pay $30 for a solid working version.Recently, on a climb I met a prominent user of this list who was not aware of GPSFileDepot, so I thought perhaps others might not be either. With all other apps closed, the screen still lags when redrawing, presents digital artifacts on the screen, crashes when I zoom in or out too fast, etc. It always worked, always connected.īase camp seems really buggy lately, more so than usual. It also has to be plugged in to the Mac directly, not into a USB hub. If I disconnect all other USB devices, and set my Mac to boot from the first partition and not mount any more volumes, I can get the Zumo to connect to Basecamp and transfer to/from the device. I also have two external drives, one for Media and one for backup. I have two SSD drives in my Mac and one is partitioned into two areas, so when booted it appears that I have three hard drives. But when furkot and kurviger and osmand came along, I quickly moved away from Basecamp, and I'm not going back. The Zumo has to be the second or third mounted device. Basecamp was one of the reasons I didn't buy another Garmin, and I was rather proficient with Basecamp, having used it for 10+ years. After spending 6 hours trying to load a simple route on to the Zumo, I have a few observations. If you load both maps on your Garmin the contours should be visible because it is an overlay over the basemap. AFAIK Basecamp & Mapsource only show one map at a time. Would anyone be able to provide a sequence for that? Again, I've followed the steps in Basecamp. I presume that each country package comes with 2 garmin maps: the main OSM-based map a transparent contour map. The XT does now get recognized by Basecamp, after using the six steps noted in a previous response, but cannot seem to get routes to the XT consistently. the separate segments of the new practice route show up under Saved! No total file that I can select and "GO" to, just the individual segments of the route I created.) It says "complete", but the gpx file doesn't show up on the XT. I follow the transfer process in Basecamp. It shows up in the Android app that I downloaded, it shows up on My Collections in Basecamp, but does not show up on the XT no matter how many times I restart and go through the transfer process. Then I created another route on Ridewithgps for a practice transfer. I also successfully added the MABDR to the XT. I successfully transferred a gpx file of an old route from Ridewithgps (related note - I still cannot get basecamp to create a route, so I used Ridewithgps).
